OXYFUEL COURSES: WHAT IT IS AND HOW IT WORKS

The employer, in light of Legislative Decree 81/08, is required to instruct and train its internal and external staff who carry out cutting activities using gas.

Oxyfuel cutting, also called thermal cutting, is a procedure for cutting sheet metal or metal profiles in which an oxyacetylene flame, or heating flame, and a jet of pure oxygen are used; it is therefore a real chemical reaction that produces energy in the form of heat, and which leads to the formation of iron oxides during processing.

The assumption on which this procedure is based is that a ferrous material, brought to incandescent temperatures, can burn in the presence of oxygen; the only requirement that the material to be cut must have is to contain an adequate percentage of carbon.

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The purpose of this course is to explain the main oxyfuel cutting techniques, to describe the processes and the main types of gases used.

The components and accessories used in the different techniques, the PPE to be used to guarantee the operator's safety and the different types of cutting defects are described.

Finally, the aspect linked to company safety, the handling of gas cylinders and the correct procedures to guarantee the prevention of accidental ignition is addressed.

The course teaches the fundamental basics of the profession and represents a phase of a training course which ends with the acquisition of a certificate which represents an indispensable document to validate the professional ability to carry out the work in a qualified and safe manner.
